This is a semi-abstract painting inspired by swimming in the waters around Scolt Head Island on the North Norfolk coast. It has that magical quality capturing the essence of place. This contemporary painting was inspired by the long stretch of dunes reaching along the coastline from Burnham Overy Staithe to Holkham beach, perched high on the dune ridge so as to look straight out to sea. Its simplicity evokes a meditative and calm quality for the viewer. Painted using a layering of glazes to build up a richness and depth to the sweeping strokes of Marram grasses and sky.
